Since 2011, Drum Lessons Austin has been a place where students’ curiosity, interests and preferences shape how their lessons are structured. From the precocious 5-year-old who wants to learn AC/DC or Taylor Swift songs to the working or retired adult after a brain-stimulating mid-day break, we help students of all ages connect with the drums in a way that resonates with who they are.
Beyond lessons, students connect with each other, form bands, record their own music and perform live.
Drums are our specialty
Most of our students study drum set, some alongside another instrument, and we have five drum set instructors. We teach on professional quality acoustic kits, and we also have electronic drum sets for students who want to learn on those. Both are available at both of our locations.

How we teach drums
Songs first
For elementary age students, our curriculum focuses on learning songs rather than teaching only from a book, taking students from the very beginning basics through intermediate level play.
Learn to read music
We teach students to read music for drum set, including real charts of their favorite bands’ songs, to play in lessons and at home.
The right balance
Our curriculum finds the right blend of fundamentals and technique with the joy of playing favorite songs, tuned to each student’s learning style, age and aptitude.
Practice at home
Our Drum Dojo curriculum and our own Limb Weaver and Rhythm Farm apps make it easy for drummers to practice between lessons.
Songs written by our teachers and students
We have been teaching since 2011, and over the years teachers and students have written songs together and recorded them. Those homemade songs have become part of our curriculum, which gives our students educational material that is truly unique: homemade, Austin made, and created between teachers and students. It is also a great reflection of the connections we build with students and of our creative work.
